The Birth of Daniel Bear

So, just how does a thirty-something, intelligent and well-educated woman come to own a teddy bear representation of a fictional character?  Well, you see, I've always had a fondness for collecting things associated with my favorite fandoms.  However, I don't just like to gather memorabilia and place it on a shelf - although that is a part of it.  I also like to collect items and actually use them.  In the case of toys, that means that yes, I do in fact play with them... from time to time.

My favorite items to collect - and play with - are 12-inch action figures.  I suppose it reminds me of my childhood, when I was so fond of playing with Barbie and look-alike dolls.  But here's the problem.  To my knowledge, there are no Stargate SG-1 action figures, in the 12-inch size variety or otherwise.  And yet, I really, really wanted a Daniel Jackson action figure so he could hang out with my other Boyz*.

As I considered my dilemma, I learned from an email friend that she had actually found a way around this problem.  She had designed and acquired a Daniel Jackson teddy bear, through the company known as Build A Bear.  Needless to say, the light bulb went off in my own head, and the rest is history.

* Generic term affectionately used to refer to my collection of 12-inch action figures.

E   Isn't he a cutie?  J

Here a couple of side views to show that he does indeed sport the SG-1 logos on both sleeves.

This is where Daniel Bear normally hangs out - on the top of the bookshelf right beside my bed, along with my other Boyz.

From left to right: Legolas, Luke Skywalker - and that's 1977 version Luke, by the way - Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Daniel Bear.  Um, yes, Luke and Obi-Wan are dressed in casual clothes.  I don't always keep the Boyz in their "character" attire, because - really - what's the fun in that?  J
